In this lesson, you will learn how to introduce a future period, use be going to for intentions, use plan to and hope to for personal goals, add time expressions and reasons, organise several plans clearly, and finish with a simple prediction or expectation using will.

Model text

Next year, I am going to make several changes in my life. First, I am going to improve my English because I want to speak more confidently. I also plan to exercise three times a week and save money for a trip. In the summer, I hope to visit Italy with a friend. I think these plans will help me become healthier, more independent, and more confident about my future.

Language focus

Use be going to + base verb for intentions:

I am going to improve my English.

We are going to travel next summer.

She is going to start a new course.

Use plan / hope / want + to + base verb:

I plan to exercise more.

I hope to visit Italy.

I want to save money.

Remember:
I am going to study more. Not: I am going to studying more.
I plan to travel. Not: I plan travel.
I hope to find a new job. Not: I hope finding a new job.
Use will for a simple prediction or expected result: I think these changes will help me.
