I live in a small city near the mountains. It is busy but very friendly. There are many cafés, shops, and parks in the centre. People usually travel by bus or car. My favourite place is the old park because it is quiet and beautiful.

Language focus

Use “There is” with one place and “There are” with two or more:

There is a museum near the park.

There are many shops in the centre.

Use “by” with transport, but “on foot” for walking:

People travel by bus.

I go to the centre on foot.

I walk to the park.

Remember:
There is a park near my house.
There are many cafés in the centre.
Not: There are a park near my house.
