Natalie says coffee shops became popular not only because of coffee, but because of the experience and lifestyle.

First, cafés are comfortable “third places” where people can relax, meet friends, or sit alone for a short break.

Second, cafés fit modern life: remote workers and students use them for Wi-Fi, tables, sockets, and quiet corners.

Another reason is social media: drinks and desserts look great, so people share photos and cafés become “Instagram-friendly.”

Finally, coffee culture became international: people moved from instant coffee to many global options like latte and cold brew.

She concludes that cafés went global because they are places to rest, work, connect, and feel part of city life.

Hi, I’m Natalie. Today I want to talk about something we see almost everywhere: coffee shops. In many cities, it feels like there is a café on every corner. In my opinion, coffee shops became so popular worldwide not only because of coffee, but because of the experience and the lifestyle they offer. First, coffee shops are comfortable “third places.” Home is the first place, work or school is the second, and a café becomes the third. People go there to relax, meet friends, or simply sit alone with a book. The atmosphere is usually warm: soft music, nice smells, and a calm feeling. Even if you are busy, you can take a short break and feel better in ten minutes. Second, coffee shops are useful for modern life. Many people work remotely now, so they need a place with Wi-Fi, a table, and a bit of background noise. A café gives you that without the pressure of an office. You can answer emails, study, or prepare for an exam. Some cafés even design their space for this: they have sockets, bigger tables, and quiet corners. Another reason is social media. Coffee drinks look beautiful. People love taking photos of cappuccino foam, colorful lattes, and desserts. Cafés often understand this and create “Instagram-friendly” spaces. This makes the café popular online, and then more people want to visit it in real life. Finally, coffee culture has become international. Years ago, many people drank simple instant coffee at home. Now we have espresso, latte, flat white, cold brew, and many other options. People like to try new tastes and feel a little “modern” and global. So, I think coffee shops went global because they are more than a place to drink coffee. They are places to rest, work, connect, and feel part of city life.
