Hi, I’m Chris. Today I want to tell you about a day trip I took to Washington, D.C. I went there for the first time recently, and I was surprised by how much you can do in one day, even with a simple plan. I arrived in the morning by train. The first thing I noticed was how clean and organized the city felt, especially around the main streets. I didn’t rent a car because traffic can be stressful, and the metro in D.C. is easy to use. I bought a ticket, checked the map, and within minutes I was on my way. My main goal was to see the National Mall area. It’s a long open space with famous monuments and museums, so I started walking and just followed the crowd. I saw the Washington Monument from far away, and it looked huge in real life. After that, I walked toward the Lincoln Memorial. The steps were full of people taking photos, but the atmosphere was still respectful and quiet. One of the best parts of the trip was visiting a museum. I chose a Smithsonian museum because many of them are free, which is amazing. I spent about an hour inside, but honestly, you could stay there all day. I liked how the exhibits were clear and interactive, not boring like some old museums. Around lunchtime I got hungry, so I grabbed something simple—just a sandwich and coffee from a small café. Prices were a bit higher than in my city, but the service was quick, and I didn’t want to waste time sitting too long. In the afternoon I walked more, and I also stopped near the White House. You can’t get very close, of course, but it was still interesting to see it with my own eyes. Before I left, I sat on a bench for a few minutes and watched people: tourists, office workers, families, and students. The city felt busy but not chaotic. By the evening, I was tired from walking, but I felt happy. D.C. is a great place for a short visit because it’s full of history, culture, and landmarks. Next time, I want to explore more neighborhoods and try local food, not just the tourist spots.
