🧩First Conditional — Form
FORMULA
If + present simple, will + base verb (or modal / imperative).
Order can change: Main + if-clause (no comma).

- 📚 If I have time tonight, I’ll study English for 20 minutes.
- I’ll study English for 20 minutes if I have time tonight.
- 📩 If you don’t understand the task, ask the teacher. (imperative)
- 🏁 If you finish your homework early, you can watch a film. (modal)
- 🎯 If you want to improve faster, you should practise every day. (modal)

⛔Common mistakes (important!)
- ✗ If you will help me, I’ll thank you. → ✓ If you help me, I’ll thank you.
- ✗ Comma in the middle: I’ll call you, if I arrive. → ✓ I’ll call you if I arrive.
- ✗ Future after time words: I’ll message you when I will finish. → ✓ … when I finish.
Tip
- Unless = if… not: Unless I feel tired, I’ll do one more exercise. (= If I don’t feel tired…)
- Formal alternative: If you should need help, call me. / Should you need help, call me.
- In case shows preparation, not condition result: Bring a notebook in case you forget your phone.
⏱️Future Time Clauses — Form
RULE
After when, as soon as, before, after, until, once, while, by the time, use a present form (often present simple / sometimes present perfect). The other clause takes will, a modal, or an imperative.
- 🕒 When I get home, I’ll do my English homework.
- As soon as you finish this page, you can take a break.
- Before you go to bed, read one short text in English.
- Until I hear the audio clearly, I won’t answer the questions.
- Once you’ve learned these words, try them in a sentence. (present perfect in the time clause)
🔤Punctuation & Position
- Comma when the time/if clause comes first: If I have time, I’ll practise speaking.
- No comma when the main clause comes first: I’ll practise speaking if I have time.
- Both orders are correct for emphasis or flow.

🧷Useful connectors
- as long as / so long as / provided (that) = only if: You can watch TV as long as you finish your homework.
- by the time + present perfect: By the time the lesson ends, we will have finished the quiz.

- If I don’t know a word, I’ll check it in a dictionary.
- Call me as soon as you get home.
- If you speak too fast, people won’t understand you.
- We’ll start the exercise when everyone is ready.
- After you’ve listened to the audio, answer the questions.
Recap: First conditional = If + present, will/modal/imperative (real future result).
