Goal

Talk about where you live, describe your home and rooms, and use simple words for furniture and everyday objects.

Types of homes

  • home — the place where you live and feel comfortable.
  • house — one building, usually with a garden.
  • flat / apartment — one home inside a larger building.
  • room — part of a home: living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom.
  • Useful sentence: I live in a flat. / We live in a house.

Rooms & places at home

  • living room — you relax, watch TV, talk to friends.
  • bedroom — you sleep and keep your clothes.
  • kitchen — you cook and eat.
  • bathroom — you take a shower and brush your teeth.
  • Other places: hall, corridor, balcony, garden.

Furniture & objects

  • table, chair, sofa, bed.
  • lamp, TV, fridge, stove, sink.
  • wardrobe, cupboard, shower, toilet.
  • Basic structure: There is (one) / There are (more than one): There is a sofa. / There are two chairs.

Describing your home

  • My home is small but comfortable.
  • There is a big living room and a small kitchen.
  • There are two bedrooms upstairs.
  • Use easy adjectives: small, big, comfortable, tidy, messy.

Everyday actions at home

  • I cook in the kitchen.
  • I watch TV in the living room.
  • I take a shower in the bathroom.
  • I stay at home at the weekend.
  • Use present simple: I clean, I cook, I stay at home.

Tip: describe your home with There is…, There are… and easy adjectives: There is a small kitchen, There are two big bedrooms.
