Anna — My studies
Female

Hi, I’m Anna. Right now, I’m studying English, and I try to practice a little every day. I study in the evening after work, usually for about thirty minutes. I use a notebook for new words, and I write short sentences to remember them. I also listen to simple podcasts and repeat the phrases. It helps me with pronunciation.

I’m studying English because I want to feel more confident at work. Sometimes I need to write emails and talk to customers, and I don’t want to feel nervous. At first, I was afraid of making mistakes, so I didn’t speak much. But my teacher told me that mistakes are normal, so now I try to speak more.

My biggest problem is time. Some days I’m tired, and I want to watch a film instead of studying. When that happens, I do something small, like five minutes of vocabulary. I also try to review old words, not only learn new ones. Step by step, I feel progress, and it motivates me to continue.

David — My studies
Male

Hello, I’m David. I’m a student at a community college, and I study business and basic computer skills. I have classes three days a week, in the morning. We learn about simple marketing, communication, and using Excel. I like it, but it can be challenging.

After classes, I usually go to the library. I read my notes and do homework for one or two hours. Sometimes I study with a classmate, because it’s easier to understand difficult topics together. When I study alone, I sometimes lose focus, so I take short breaks.

I chose these studies because I want a better job in the future. Before, I worked in a shop, but I want to work in an office. My teachers say I’m improving, but I still need more practice, especially with presentations. I get nervous when I speak in front of people. To help myself, I practice at home and speak slowly. I’m not perfect yet, but I’m learning every week.

Maria — My studies
Female

Hi, I’m Maria. I’m studying nursing, and it’s a busy life. I have lessons during the week and practice in a hospital as well. My schedule changes often, so I need to plan my time carefully. Some days I study in the morning, and other days I study late at night.

In my course, we learn about the human body, basic health problems, and how to help patients. I also have to learn many new words. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed, because there is so much information. When that happens, I break it into small parts. I study one topic, then I take a short break, and then I continue.

I like my studies because they feel meaningful. I want to help people, and I want to be a good nurse. I also study English, because in the hospital I sometimes meet international patients. My goal is to finish my studies next year and start working full-time. It’s not easy, but I’m proud of myself for doing it.
