We use possessive adjectives to show ownership.

🧍‍♂️ Subject Pronouns vs. Possessive Adjectives

Use subject pronouns with verbs, and possessive adjectives with nouns.

Subject Pronoun Possessive Adjective Example
I my I like coffee. → My favorite drink is coffee.
They their They live in Ohio. → That is their house.
We our We are friends. → This is our school.

📌 Possessive Adjectives are Always Singular

Adjectives in English do not change form. Possessive adjectives stay the same for both singular and plural nouns.

These are our tickets.
These are ours tickets.

📚 It/Its vs They/Their

Use he/his & she/her for people, it/its for things, and they/their for plural.

  • The museum has its own café.
  • It is very popular with tourists.
  • I like those photos; they are really clear.
  • But their frames are a bit heavy.

🌦️ It’s for Time & Weather

Use it’s (it is) when talking about time or weather.

  • It’s rainy today, but it’s warm.
  • “What time is it?” “It’s half past six.”

❓ Is it or Its?

Its is possessive; it’s means “it is.”

Look at that cat. It’s adorable. I like its eyes.
